The Peugeot 307, introduced in 2001, was a turning point in the Peugeot model range. This compact car from the French brand was widely acclaimed for its avant-garde design and innovative technology, making it one of the best-selling cars of its time.

History of the Peugeot 307

The Peugeot 307 belongs to the C-segment of passenger cars, replacing the 306, which was very popular in the 1990s. Peugeot, with the 307, not only sought to offer a car that maintained the reliability and performance of its predecessor, but also wanted to surprise consumers with a fresh, modern design. It was marketed in both three-door and five-door versions, as well as in more family-friendly variants such as the 307 SW and 307 CC (Coupé-Cabriolet).

One of the things that made the 307 special was its size, which increased the feeling of interior space and gave it a more robust appearance. It was also taller than other models in the same segment, which made it feel safer and more comfortable to drive.

Innovations and Technology

The Peugeot 307 stood out not only for its design, but also for the technology it offered. It introduced significant improvements in safety, being one of the first vehicles in its class to include front and side airbags, ABS and traction control as standard. It also had engine options ranging from fuel-efficient HDi diesel engines to more powerful versions, all meeting the strictest emissions regulations of the time.

One of the most iconic versions of the Peugeot 307 was the 307 WRC, a competition model based on the production car, which competed in the World Rally Championship. Although it did not achieve the expected success on the track, it showed the car's sporting potential and ability to adapt to different driving contexts.

Design and Aesthetics

The Peugeot 307 was designed with sleek, streamlined lines, giving it a modern and timeless look. The front grille, elongated headlamps and smooth side lines emphasised its style. Inside, the 307 offered a spacious cabin with quality finishes and an ergonomic layout, making every journey comfortable and practical.

Another design highlight was the 307 CC version, a coupé-cabriolet that offered both a closed and open-top car. This model combined elegance and driving fun with the technology of a retractable hardtop, making it highly versatile.

A Commercial Success

During its production run, the Peugeot 307 was a success in the European market, outselling many of its competitors. In 2002, it was awarded the prestigious title of ‘European Car of the Year’, cementing its position as one of Peugeot's most important vehicles in the first decade of the 2000s.

The 307 range continued until 2008, when it was replaced by the Peugeot 308, a model that continued the brand's tradition of success in the C-segment.

The Peugeot 307 was more than just a compact car; it became a symbol of modernity, comfort and technology in the automotive industry of its time. With its elegant design, advanced safety and versatility, the 307 made a lasting impression on the European market, earning a special place in Peugeot's history.
